What Happens During a Hair Transplant?
A hair transplant is a simple outpatient procedure that is virtually painless with little or no downtime for the patient.
Hair Transplant Procedure
- Your scalp is cleaned with a disinfectant and injected with a local anesthetic.
- A small area in the back of the head called the 'safe zone' contains hair that is genetically preprogrammed to not fall out. This tissue is harvested and divided into small follicular unit grafts by technicians.
- The open donor area is then closed and stitched.
- Small incisions are made in the thinning or balding area for the hair grafts. By artistically placing these grafts in a random pattern, the results look completely natural.
- After the surgery, patients are advised to restrict strenuous activities until the sutures are removed to prevent unnecessary scarring.
